The first session, what may I expect?
The first session is an assessment session. This is where, with the help of the Counsellor, you can explore whether you feel counselling is right for you. This is an opportunity to discuss your hopes and expectations of counselling therapy. The Counsellor will explain what counselling can offer and answer any questions or concerns you may have. This is an opportunity to find out if you wish to proceed with further counselling sessions.
If both you and the Counsellor agree that counselling would be helpful then you would be offered future appointments.
A counselling session lasts for one hour. Sessions can be arranged flexibly.
Counselling requires commitment and it is important to attend regularly, even if some of the issues that are discussed become difficult for you.
If you are unable to keep appointments at any time please tell the Counsellor as soon as possible and another time can be arranged.
The number of sessions you have is up to you and can be discussed with the Counsellor at the first session. Counselling sessions can be time limited or extended. In every case regular evaluation will be made to ensure that you are getting the service that you feel is right for you.
